In July 2022, the Winnipeg Police Service's Child Abuse Unit began an investigation after receiving a report about a teenage student who had been sexually assaulted by their martial arts instructor between May and July 2022.
The victim reported that on more than one occasion before entering the class, the instructor touched them in an unwanted and sexual manner and attempted to kiss them on another occasion. They were not physically injured during these incidents.
During the investigation, it was learned that previous grooming incidents occurred towards the victim through electronic communication.
The location of this incident and gender identification is not provided to protect the survivor's identity.
On October 25, 2022, a 23-year-old male, Noah James BEATON-STOKELL of Winnipeg, was charged with Sexual Exploitation and Sexual Assault.
He was released with Crown-imposed conditions.
