Excessive speeding lands drivers tickets and serious offence notices

Between September 30 and October 4, 2026, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Traffic Division conducted targeted enforcement that resulted in several drivers being charged with careless driving and speeding (some travelling 50 km/h above the posted speed limit).  In addition to being charged under the Highway Traffic Act (HTA), they were also issued MPI Serious Offence Notices, which may result in further administrative sanctions, including licence suspensions and driver safety rating consequences.

The following four incidents occurred on Chief Peguis Trail:

  1. On September 30, at 11:50 p.m., a man in his 30s was charged under the HTA for Drive Carelessly and Speeding (137 km/h in an 80 km/h zone).

  1. On October 1, at 12:07 a.m., a man in his 30s was charged under the HTA for Drive Carelessly and Speeding (136 km/h in an 80 km/h zone).

  1. October 1, at 12:49 a.m., a man in his 20s was charged under the HTA for Drive Carelessly, Window Tinting and Speeding (138 km/h in an 80 km/h zone).

  1. October 3, at 12:32 a.m., a man in his 20s was charged under the HTA for Drive Carelessly and Speeding (136 km/h in an 80 km/h zone).

The other incidents occurred on Abinoji Mikanah and Lagimodiere Boulevard:

  1. October 4, just after midnight, an 18-year-old male was charged under the HTA for Drive Carelessly and Speeding through a designated construction zone at Abinoji Mikanah and Pembina Highway (99 km/h in a 60 km/h zone). Upon exiting the designated construction zone, he was clocked for speeding up to (152 km/h in an 80 km/h zone).

    On October 4, 2026, around 12:00 p.m., two motorcycles speeding southbound Lagimodiere Boulevard were clocked at 165 km/h and 170 km/h. A traffic stop was conducted at Headmaster Row.  

    Both men, (in their 20s and 30s) were issued an MPI Serious Offence Notice and charged under the HTA for Drive Carelessly and Speeding.
