A 47-year-old man was seriously injured after being stabbed in a park near Young Street and Broadway Avenue. One suspect remained on scene and was arrested, while a second was identified and arrested on September 22, 2026.
On August 8, 2026, at approximately 10:00 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a stabbing in a park near the intersection of Young Street and Broadway Avenue. North District General Patrol officers, with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team (TST), located the victim suffering from life-threatening injuries and provided emergency medical care until members of the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service arrived.
The victim was transported to hospital in critical condition and later upgraded to stable condition.
Investigators learned the victim was in the park when he was approached by two unknown suspects. An interaction between the victim and one of the suspects escalated into a physical altercation. During the altercation, the second suspect assaulted the victim with an edged weapon, causing serious injuries.
One of the suspects, a 31-year-old man, returned to the scene while officers were still present and was taken into custody. He is facing a charge of Aggravated Assault and was released on an Undertaking.
The Major Crimes Unit assumed responsibility for the investigation and identified the second suspect as Jamie Nathanial NEILSON (46).
On September 22, NEILSON was arrested in the 700 block of Selkirk Avenue and taken into custody. He has been charged with Aggravated Assault and was detained in custody.
