The Winnipeg Police Service has arrested two suspects in relation to an investigation regarding the theft of two high end road bicycles from two victims travelling across Canada on July 24, 2026.
Between 7:25 a.m. and 8:00 a.m. on July 24, the two bicycles (valued at approximately $15,000) were removed from the carrier of the victim’s vehicle parked in the 400 block of Portage Avenue. The incident was reported to police, and the Property Crime Unit assumed the investigation.
On August 7, at 5:30 p.m., patrolling West District General Patrol officers, recognized one of the stolen bicycles being ridden by an adult male in the 1800 block of Bannatyne Avenue West. The 60-year-old male was placed under arrest without incident and the bicycle was recovered. He faces a charge of Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 and released on an Appearance Notice, and the bicycle was returned to its owner.
Through their investigation, Property Crime investigators identified the theft suspect and obtained a warrant for his arrest. Investigators also learned that following the thefts, the suspect traded the bicycles to the 60-year-old and an unidentified male.
On August 23, as a result of proactive enforcement on the open drug use initiative, Central District Community Support Unit officers arrested 42-year-old KUOL THOMAS MADIT at the intersection of Notre Dame Avenue and Balmoral Street seizing a small amount of Methamphetamine in the process. MADIT was turned over to Property Crime investigators.
The second stolen bicycle remains outstanding.
MADIT has been charged with the following offences:
- Theft Over $5,000 x 2
- Trafficking in Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Possession of Scheduled Substance – Fentanyl
- Warrant (Fail to Comply with Probation)
MADIT was detained in custody.
