On August 20, 2026, in the early morning hours, the Winnipeg Police Service was conducting drug interdiction enforcement along the Trans-Canada Highway, near Headingley, Manitoba.
Officers stopped a 2024 Dodge Ram truck and the driver was detained as part of a drug investigation. Indicators of interprovincial drug trafficking were observed, and with the assistance of the K9 Unit's drug detection dog, a search resulted in the seizure of the following items:
- Over 3 kilograms of opium concealed within the vehicle (estimated value of more than $200,000)
- $600 Canadian currency
A 22-year-old man from West St. Paul, Manitoba was arrested and is facing the following charges:
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Opium
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5000
He was released on an Undertaking.
