On July 25, 2026, at approximately 6:30 a.m., officers from the West District responded to numerous 911 calls regarding a man breaking into homes and a high school in the 100 block of Kingsway.
It was determined that the suspect was unknown to all of the victims. Six homes and the school were broken into after bricks and rocks were thrown through windows and glass doors. In some cases, residents were confronted and threatened by the suspect, and items were stolen from their homes.
When police arrived, they were flagged down by one of the victims, who pointed out the suspect walking down the street while still armed with a broken liquor bottle. The suspect dropped the bottle and was taken into custody without incident.
None of the victims were physically injured. At the time, the estimated value of the damage was approximately $25,000.
The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation.
Ralph Shane KNOTT, (35), was charged with the following offences:
- Break & Enter with Intent - Dwelling House x 5
- Break & Enter with Intent – Place x 2
- Assault with a Weapon
- Uttering Threats to Cause Death or Bodily Harm
- Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order
He was detained in custody.
