On June 30, 2026, at approximately 10:00 p.m., police responded to a licensed vendor in the 600 block of Westminster Avenue following reports of an altercation involving a youth and another patron. A security guard intervened and broke up the fight.

A short time later, the youth became involved in a second altercation with another patron and security staff intervened again. During the incident, the youth produced an edged weapon and stabbed the security guard in the upper body before fleeing the area. The victim was transported to hospital in stable condition.

Central District General Patrol officers, with the assistance of the Remote Piloted Aircraft Systems Unit (RPAS), the Tactical Support Team (TST), and the Canine Unit (K9), saturated the area in search of the suspect. During the search, the drone operator observed an 18-year-old man attempting to conceal himself from police and directed officers to his location. He was taken into custody without incident, and a knife was seized.

During the investigation, officers identified a 16-year-old male as the suspect involved in the assault. At approximately 1:47 a.m., officers attended a residence in the 500 block of Wardlaw Avenue, where he was taken into custody.

The 16-year-old male was charged with:

  • Assault with a Weapon
  • Fail to Comply with Sentence x2.

He was detained in custody.

The 18-year-old male is facing one count of Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order. He was released on an Appearance Notice.
