The Winnipeg Police Service (WPS), in partnership with the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs (AMC), is proud to present a newly designed WPS cruiser dedicated to improving relationships with our Indigenous community. The cruiser, which will be used solely by the Community Relations Division, was designed by Brian Hunter, a contemporary artist of Red River Metis descent, and member of the Winnipeg Police Service.
While the cruiser’s visual design honours Indigenous cultures, teachings, and traditions, its purpose reaches far beyond its appearance. This cruiser represents a meaningful step forward in building trust, strengthening relationships, and acknowledging the history, resilience, and contributions of Indigenous Peoples in our community. It serves as a reminder that policing is not only about public safety, but also about listening, learning, and working together in a spirit of mutual respect.
This initiative was made possible through the guidance and partnership of the Assembly of Manitoba Chiefs, whose leadership and collaboration were integral to the project’s development. Their involvement ensured the design and messaging are rooted in authenticity and cultural understanding.
Together, WPS and Indigenous partners are demonstrating a shared vision of Reconciliation in action, one that moves beyond words and symbolism to foster genuine connection, dialogue, and accountability. This cruiser embodies a collective commitment to ongoing partnership, community engagement, and a future where Indigenous voices continue to help shape policing in Winnipeg.
Members of the public will be able to request its appearance at different events, such as pow wows, parades, or other celebrations.
