Police have charged an individual following a homicide investigation in the Township of Greater Madawaska, Ontario, that uncovered a potential threat to a business in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
On Wednesday, May 6, 2026, just before 6:00 p.m. EST (5:00 p.m. CST), members from the Renfrew Detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) responded to a call for service on Lanark Road in the Township of Greater Madawaska, where one person was located deceased. The deceased was later identified as 61-year-old Geraldine FULCHER of Calabogie, Ontario. The death was deemed a homicide.
Further investigation revealed information indicating ties to a potential threat to a business in downtown Winnipeg. The suspect was believed to have made threats to target the business and its employees and expressed a willingness to engage in a violent confrontation with police.
On Tuesday, May 12, 2026, at approximately 1:10 p.m. CST (2:10 p.m. EST), the Winnipeg Police Service (WPS) received information from the OPP that the homicide suspect was believed to be in Winnipeg and possibly in possession of a firearm. The OPP provided a description of the suspect and their vehicle.
At approximately 1:50 p.m. CST (2:50 p.m. EST), WPS West District General Patrol officers located the suspect and the vehicle in the 3600 block of Portage Avenue. The suspect was taken into custody without incident. During the arrest, officers seized a shotgun, ammunition, additional weapons and three jerrycans of gasoline.
The WPS Major Crimes Unit (MCU) notified the OPP of the arrest and assumed carriage of the threat investigation. The OPP Criminal Investigation Branch (CIB) members attended WPS Headquarters and interviewed the suspect in connection with the homicide in Ontario.
The WPS charged Graham MLODOZENEC, 52 years old of Calabogie, Ontario, with the following Criminal Code (CC) offences:
- Possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm, s. 95(1)
- Possession of a weapon, s. 88(1)
- Uttering threats – cause death or bodily harm, s. 264.1(1)(a)
- Uttering threats – damage property, s. 264.1(1)(b)
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm in motor vehicle, s. 94(1)
- Unauthorized possession of a firearm, s. 91(1)
- Careless storage of firearm, ammunition, prohibited weapon or device, s. 86(2)
- Possession of incendiary material, s. 82(1)
On Monday, June 15, 2026, the accused was transferred into OPP custody and was further charged with the following CC offences:
- First degree murder, s. 235(1)
- Attempt murder of persons, s. 239(1)
The accused remains in custody in Ontario and is scheduled to appear before the Ontario Court of Justice in Pembroke on Monday, June 22, 2026.
Police will not be releasing the name of the business in order to protect the privacy of the employees and the ongoing court proceedings.
The OPP has assumed carriage of the homicide and threat investigations, which remain ongoing by the Renfrew OPP Crime Unit, under the direction of the OPP CIB, in conjunction with the Office of the Chief Coroner and Ontario Forensic Pathology Service. Support was provided by Winnipeg Police Service West District General Patrol and Major Crimes Unit, the OPP East Region Regional Support Team, the OPP Forensic Interview Team, OPP Forensic Identification Services, the OPP Emergency Response Team and the OPP Underwater Search and Recovery Unit. The Manitoba Prosecutions Service also provided assistance in this investigation.
