On June 12, 2026, at 6:30 p.m. the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 400 block of College Avenue for the report of a residential break and enter.

Attending North District General Patrol officers attended and observed the entry door to the residence to be opened. Officers entered to clear the residence and to confirm the wellbeing of any people that may be present. As an officer circled the perimeter of the residence and attended to the rear entrance, an adult male hiding on the property shouted at the officer while pointed a hunting rifle in their direction. The officer was able to take cover and after a short period the male was disarmed and taken into custody. The firearm was not fired during the incident and the officer did not suffer any injuries.

While clearing the residence, officers located and seized an additional 1060 rounds of various ammunition for various firearms. No other firearms were located. The hunting rifle and ammunition were seized as evidence.

Through their investigation, officers determined the original call for service regarding the break & enter to be unfounded.
