On February 20, 2026, the Winnipeg Police Service arrested a 20-year-old man in the 700 block of William Avenue regarding his involvement in a shooting incident that took place at a hotel in the 300 block of Kennedy Street.
At 3:30 p.m., Central District General Patrol officers, assisted by members of the Tactical Support Team, responded to the hotel for the report of a woman who had been shot by a male suspect. Both had left the area before police arrived.
Through the investigation, officers learned that the suspect and the victim, a 32-year-old woman, were present inside the hotel bar when they became involved in a verbal dispute which escalated with the man shooting the woman in the upper body. Though seriously injured, she left the hotel before police arrived but subsequently made her way to hospital to seek treatment. Both were unknown to one another prior to this incident.
At 7:00 p.m., the suspect attended hospital to seek treatment for a gunshot-related injury and was quickly identified by officers as the man involved in the hotel shooting incident. He was apprehended by officers and turned over to the Major Crimes Unit, who assumed the investigation.
The 20-year-old man is charged with the following offences:
- Aggravated Assault
- Discharge a Firearm with Intent
- Pointing a Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
He was detained in custody.
