In December 2025, building off the success of 2024, the Winnipeg Police Service reinitiated the SafeShop Project in an effort to ensure that shoppers, and retailers experience a safe and enjoyable retail environment during the Holiday Season.
Officers were deployed from the Major Crimes Unit, the Property Crime Unit, and Community Support Units from Districts 2, 3, and 4, to focus on key retail areas across the city to deter criminal activity, promote theft prevention, and provide a quick incident response.
The increased police presence has played a significant role in reducing crime and fostering secure environments for retailers, staff, and consumers.
During the month of December our officers engaged with business throughout the city:
- Arrested 72 individuals of which 25 were detained in custody
- Arrested 7 of the Crime Stoppers Retail Theft top 10 most wanted list, laying 85 criminal charges
- Apprehended an additional seven prolific offenders
- Laid over 196 criminal charges
- Recovered $23,938.84 in stolen property
Creating a safer community is something we can achieve together. Everyone – shoppers, retailers, and police – plays a role in reducing crime and fostering a secure environment. By working collaboratively, we can make a meaningful difference.
Public safety remains the top priority of the Winnipeg Police Service.
