The Winnipeg Police Service’s Counter Exploitation Unit and the RCMP Human Trafficking Unit, with support from the Manitoba Criminal Intelligence Centre of Manitoba Justice, conducted a Joint Forces Operation targeting sexual exploitation and human trafficking in the City of Winnipeg. This coordinated investigation, which took place November 12 to November 15, aimed to disrupt street-level and online sexual exploitation activities.
Over the course of this operation, 32 adult males between the ages of 18-75 were arrested for Obtaining Sexual Services for Consideration or Communicating in Any Place for That Purpose, contrary to Criminal Code. The arrests occurred across multiple locations within the City of Winnipeg.
As part of the enforcement actions, 15 vehicles were seized under Section 242.2(3) of the Highway Traffic Act, which allows for the impoundment of motor vehicles used in prostitution-related offences.
All accused individuals were released on Undertakings to appear in court at later dates.
Police made contact with 25 individuals working within the sex trade industry, ensuring their safety and offering resources.
This operation reflects the continued commitment of Manitoba law enforcement to proactively combat sexual exploitation and human trafficking. It shows the value of inter-agency collaboration to address these crimes and protect vulnerable individuals.
