The Manitoba Integrated High Risk Sex Offender Unit (MIHRSOU) is a joint forces unit of the Winnipeg Police Service and the RCMP. MIHRSOU today provides information regarding LESLIE WAYNE OLIVER MERCREDI (also known as Leslie Wayne Brightnose, Leslie Mercredi), 33 years of age, a convicted sex offender who is considered high risk to re‑offend in a sexual manner against all children, particularly females.

MERCREDI was released from the Milner Ridge Correctional Centre, Manitoba, on November 2, 2025, after serving a sentence for two counts of failing to comply with the conditions of a Recognizance Order. He was convicted on March 21, 2025 of those offences, and received a sentence of 540 days less time in custody and a two-year probation order.

MERCREDI has a history of violent and sexual offences and although he participated in some treatment programming in the past, MERCREDI is still considered high risk to re-offend in a sexual manner.  All children are at risk, particularly females.

Background information:

Leslie Wayne Oliver MERCREDI (also known as Leslie Wayne Brightnose, Leslie Mercredi) is a 33-year-old male with a lengthy criminal record including convictions for Sexual Assault, Sexual Interference, Assault, Possess Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, and numerous breaches of probation and recognizance orders.

MERCREDI’s most recent convictions for failing to comply with the conditions of his Recognizance Order from March 21, 2025, resulted in a total sentence of 540 days (includes credit of 200 days pre-sentence custody) and a 2-year Probation Order.

Prior to that, MERCREDI was released on August 21, 2024, after serving a sentence for failing to comply with the conditions of a probation order, that he was convicted of and received a sentence of 236 days (including credit for 86 days of pre-sentence custody), and a 2-year supervised Probation Order. He breached conditions and was arrested on November 8, 2024.

MERCREDI’S previous conviction for Sexual Interference, Possess Weapon for Dangerous Purpose, and breach probation resulted in a sentence of three years and six months (in addition to 779 days pre-trial sentence custody).

MERCREDI commits sexual offences by threatening victims or plying them with drugs or other inducements. He has also breached probation orders by being alone with children under 16 years of age.

MERCREDI is subject to a lifetime prohibition order which prohibits him from:

  • Attending a public park or public swimming area where persons under 16 years of age are present, or a daycare, school ground, playground or community centre;
  • Seeking, obtaining or continuing any employment, or being a volunteer, that involves being in a position of trust or authority towards persons under 16 years of age; and
  • Having contact with any person under 16 years of age unless done so with written authorization to do so from his probation officer.

MERCREDI is also subject to three Probation Orders with conditions that include:

  • No contact/communication or be in the presence of any person under 18 years of age;
  • Comply with absolute curfew for first 3 months and then daily curfew between    10:00 pm and 7:00 am;
  • Reside as directed by his probation officer;
  • Comply with counselling, treatment as directed by his probation officer; and
  • Not possess or consume any alcohol or illegal drugs.

MERCREDI is subject to a lifetime weapons prohibition order.

While incarcerated, MERCREDI participated in some sex offender programming but is still considered high risk to re-offend in a sexual manner against all children, particularly females.

MERCREDI is expected to take up residence in Winnipeg, Manitoba.
