On October 18, 2025 at 9:15 p.m., East District Community Support Unit officers, with assistance from East District General Patrol and Air1, arrested a 45-year-old man following a traffic pursuit in the East Elmwood neighbourhood.
At approximately 8:55 p.m., officers observed a domestic incident in a parking lot in the 1500 block of Regent Avenue. Officers intervened and attempted to box in a 2012 Ford F150, which had previously been reported stolen from a business in the 500 block of Munroe Avenue. The driver drove the vehicle at an officer who was exiting his police cruiser. The officer jumped out of the way of the vehicle before it fled from the parking lot at a high rate of speed. Officers initiated a traffic pursuit.
Members of Air1 took over the pursuit and maintained visual containment of the vehicle as the man drove recklessly through East Elmwood onto sidewalks and green spaces. Air1 provided direction to ground units who successfully deployed a stop stick, eventually disabling the vehicle. The man abandoned the now inoperable vehicle in the area of Nottingham Avenue and Molson Street and fled on foot.
Air1 followed him to a residential yard in the 400 block of Kent Road where he attempted to break into a garage, causing approximately $1,000 in damage. Officers deployed a Conductive Energy Weapon (Taser) to arrest the uncooperative, non-compliant man. No injuries were reported as a result of this incident.
The 45-year-old man has been charged with the following offences:
- Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon
- Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer
- Dangerous Operation of a Conveyance
- Resist Peace Officer
- Break Enter & Commit – Place
- Utter Threats – Cause Death or Bodily Harm
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
He was detained in custody and is not being named to protect the identity of involved parties.
