On September 20, 2025, approximately 5:15 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the intersection of Broadway and Furby Street regarding the wellbeing of a man. Callers reported the man was unclothed, appeared disoriented and was attempting to gain entry into occupied vehicles in the area.

Officers arrived on scene, called paramedics, and the man was medically cleared.

Police drove the man to his residence, and as they approached the front door, he suddenly ran off – still unclothed.

After a short foot pursuit police caught up to him. The man became physically combative, assaulting the officers. A use of force encounter occurred, and he was taken into custody with the assistance of backup units.

He was transported to hospital in stable condition and medically sedated.

One officer sustained minor injuries but did not require further medical attention.

On September 21, around 12:25 a.m., police attended the hospital where the man was still in custody. At that time, they were updated that his medical condition included fractures.

A 34-year-old man is facing charges for:

Assault Peace Officer

Assault Peace Officer with a Weapon

He remained in hospital.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) was notified and have assumed responsibility for the investigation. Please direct any follow-up inquiries to the IIU.
