On September 6, 2025, around 3:29 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a 911 call that an intoxicated male was attempting to fight family members at a residence in the 900 block of Winnipeg Avenue.
General Patrol officers from the Central District arrived within minutes and observed the man being held down by family members.
When police intervened, the man continued to be combative and punched one of the officers in the chest and spit directly in his face. A use of force encounter took place and he was taken into custody. A spit sock was applied to the man to prevent any further bodily fluids from contacting anyone.
The Winnipeg Fire Paramedics Service attended and he was cleared on scene, however was transported to hospital for additional assessment.
While at the hospital, the man again became violent towards the officers, threatened to kill them, and spit at them.
A medical examination determined he sustained a fracture to his face, and was in stable condition.
One of the officer’s was treated for bodily fluid exposure.
The 23-year-old man is facing the following charges:
- Assault a Peace Officer x 3
- Uttering Threats - Cause Death or Bodily Harm
He was released on an Undertaking.
