On August 30, 2025, West District General Patrol officers arrested a 54-year-old man after receiving a report he was walking on the roadway in the 2300 block of Pembina Highway while holding a large knife.

At approximately 10:40 a.m., the man armed himself with a large knife and began wandering into traffic on Pembina Highway. A concerned citizen contacted police, who quickly arrived and located him in the center median still armed with the knife. While yelling and screaming at officers, the man approached the police cruiser and began banging the windows using his fist and the weapon.

The officers, concerned for their own safety and that of the general public, voiced for additional units to assist in taking the agitated man into custody. While still displaying erratic, violent behaviour, and still with knife in hand, the man walked back into traffic before returning to the police cruiser where he continued banging on windows and yelling at officers.

After failed attempts to get the man to drop the weapon, officers deployed multiple tasers, ultimately disarming him and placing him under arrest. Believed to be experiencing psychosis at the time of this incident, the man was sedated, stabilized, and transported to hospital for further assessment.

No injuries to the man or involved officers were reported as a result of the encounter.

He is facing a charge of Possession of a Weapon and two counts of Assault a Peace Officer with a Weapon.

He has been detained in police custody awaiting further disposition.
