On July 26, 2025, two teenagers escaped custody from the Manitoba Youth Centre in the 100 block of Doncaster Street but were arrested hours later and are back in custody. An adult and a third teen (who assisted with their escape) were also arrested.
At approximately 7:17 p.m., two 16-year-old youth housed at the Manitoba Youth Centre managed to get outside the facility by finding a way through to the building’s exterior. They met up with a 17-year-old and an 18-year-old female, waiting nearby in a vehicle to help them escape, and fled the area.
Shortly before midnight, the Major Crimes Unit, with assistance from the Tactical Support Team, Drone, and Canine Units located all three suspects at a residence in the 300 block of Flora Avenue. The two escapees attempted to flee on foot, and were arrested nearby after a brief foot pursuit. The 18-year-old female was arrested without incident.
On July 27, 2025, shortly after 8:30 p.m., the Major Crimes Unit located and arrested a 17-year-old female at a residence in the 100 block of North Point Boulevard.
Two 16-year-old males have been charged with escaping lawful custody. One of them was also charged with being unlawfully at large. They were both detained in custody.
A 17-year-old and an 18-year-old female are each facing charges of rescue or permitting escape x 2. They were both released on an Undertaking.
