On July 18, 2025, just after 8:30 p.m., a teenager was shopping in the 1400 block of Portage Avenue when he was approached by three other teens, one of whom, was armed with a machete. He was struck with the machete numerous times causing him to fall to the ground. The assault continued and he was robbed of his personal property prior to the three teens fleeing the area.
West District General Patrol officers were called and found the 14-year-old victim, who was suffering from a significant injury to his hand. The victim received emergency medical care by police and was transported to hospital in stable condition.
A short time later, officers located and arrested the three teens responsible for the robbery at a restaurant located in the 1400 block of St Matthews Avenue.
The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation.
A 13-year-old boy has been charged for offences including robbery and three warrants for fail to comply with sentence.
A 14-year-old boy has been charged with robbery.
They were both detained in custody.
A 15-year-old boy is facing a charge of robbery.
He was released on an Undertaking.
