On July 11, 2025, around 1:20 a.m., the Winnipeg Fire Paramedic Service (WFPS) was responding to a pickup truck on fire in the 300 block of Princess Street.
While WFPS was approaching, a man armed with a metal pole was standing in the intersection of Logan/Princess. He began hitting the fire engine as it passed, causing damage. When they parked and one of the crew members got out, he was confronted by the man and struck in the face with the pole. He received minor injuries.
Police were contacted and arrested the accused who was still on scene.
During the investigation, it was determined the man was linked to the vehicle fire.
Lorne Albert HOFER, 25, was charged with the following offences:
- Assault with a Weapon
- Possession of a Weapon
- Mischief Under $5,000/Obstruct in Enjoyment
- Arson Causing Damage to Property
- Possession of Incendiary Material
- Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order
He was detained in custody.
