On July 9, 2025, just after 7:30 a.m., six people were randomly assaulted by bear spray in the Osborne Village area; a suspect was arrested.

The suspect, a woman, bear sprayed the driver of a vehicle through the window when it    was stopped at the intersection of Stradbrook Avenue and Donald Street.

A short time later, a woman was riding her bicycle in the area of Donald Street and Bell Avenue when she was approached by the suspect woman and assaulted with bear spray.

A woman was waiting for a bus at the corner of River Avenue and Donald Street when she was approached by the suspect and assaulted with bear spray.

A fourth person, a woman, was walking to her bus stop at River Avenue and Donald Street when she encountered the suspect sitting on the ground. The suspect assaulted the woman with bear spray.

Two women were walking in the area of River Avenue and Mayfair Place when they saw a suspect woman chasing someone. Upon seeing the two women, the suspect stopped and assaulted them with bear spray. The person being chased has not been identified and it is unknown if they were sprayed.

West District General Patrol officers were contacted and arrested the suspect in the 200 block of River Avenue.

20-year-old Sumayah Lucille Chanelle COOK-OKEMOW has been charged with the following offences:

  • Assault with a Weapon x 6
  • Possession of a Weapon
  • Mischief Under $5,000

She was detained in custody.

This investigation is ongoing. Police believe that there may be additional people who were affected but have not yet been identified. Anyone wishing to speak to an investigator is encouraged to contact West District 204-986-2842.
