On June 25, at approximately 4:47 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service’s East and West District stopped a 2019 Honda Odyssey in the 100 block of Kirkbridge Drive after identifying the lone driver as the suspect of consecutive commercial robberies during the night. Ian Carlton SIMPSON (53), is charged with five counts of Robbery.
Between 12:45 a.m. and 4:47 a.m., SIMPSON drove to five convenience stores, including the 900 block of Lorette Avenue, the 800 block of Cavalier Drive, the 3000 block of Ness Avenue, the 400 block of Academy Road, and the 1400 block of Pembina Highway.
In all incidents, SIMPSON demanded money from the cash registers either armed with a knife or implying he had a weapon. He fled in his Honda Odyssey with an undisclosed amount cash and in one case, a cordless phone. Shortly after committing the last robbery, patrolling officers aware of the incidents, observed the Odyssey in the area of Pembina Highway and Killarney Avenue, where the vehicle was stopped and SIMPSON was arrested.
No injuries were reported as a result any of the incidents.
SIMPSON was detained in custody.
