On the evening of June 14, 2025, beginning around 6:00 p.m., a Winnipeg man was involved in a series of violent incidents in the St. Boniface area.
The first occurred in the 100 block of Dupont Street, where he broke into a vehicle and stole property belonging to the owner.
Shortly after, a witness spotted the same man breaking into another vehicle in the 200 block of Enfield Crescent. When the witness intervened, the suspect picked up a brick, threatened to kill him, and threw the brick before running away.
Just after 7:00 p.m., the suspect forced his way into a residence in the 300 block of Hamel Avenue, where he sexually assaulted a woman and pushed her to the ground. She screamed for help, and a neighbour chased him out of the building. Her father arrived shortly after and chased the suspect towards the area of Pioneer Avenue and Waterfront Drive, where he threw a brick at him.
None of the people involved required medical treatment as a result of the incidents.
Police had been called and, at 8:04 p.m., the man was located and arrested in the area of Waterfront Drive and Bannatyne Avenue.
Matthew Raymond James STEVENS (38 yrs) has been charged with six offences relating to sexual assault, break and enter, assault with a weapon, uttering threats to kill, and theft. He was detained in custody.
