On April 4, 2025 at approximately 1:50 p.m., Central District General Patrol officers of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to the 300 block of Edmonton Street for the report of a male observed mistreating dogs in his care. The report indicated the suspect was observed repeatedly and violently pulling on one of the dogs’ leashes as he walked them in the Central Park neighbourhood.

Through their investigation, officers learned the identity of the adult male suspect and identified a linked nearby address.

At approximately 3:50 p.m., the identified suspect was observed exiting an apartment complex and though quite uncooperative, was taken into custody without incident. Officers attended a suite associated to the suspect and located the two dogs within. The dogs were seized by officers and turned over to the care of Animal Services. No injuries were observed.

A 20-year-old male of Winnipeg faces charges of Animal Cruelty and Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order.

He was released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code with the relevant condition not to possess animals.
