In January 2025, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Guns and Gangs Unit began an investigation regarding drug trafficking in the Elmwood neighbourhood.
During this investigation, approximately $179,000 worth of illicit drugs and over $10,000 in Canadian cash were seized. Three people were arrested in connection to this investigation.
On March 6, 2025, at approximately 7:00 p.m., an adult male was arrested as part of this drug investigation during a traffic stop at Watt Street and Chalmers Avenue.
A 38-year-old male, from Winnipeg is facing the following charges:
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking –Methamphetamine
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking x 6
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 x 2
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Possession of a Weapon x 2
- Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations x 2
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized x 4
- Possession of a Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon, Firearm Part or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x 3
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized x 4
- Possession of body armour without a valid permit or in a manner inconsistent with a valid permit
Subsequently, the Guns and Gangs Unit, along with the assistance of the Tactical Support Team (TST), and both Central and East District Community Support Units, executed a search warrant at a residence in the 300 block of Tweed Avenue and a female was taken into custody.
As a result of this search warrant, the following items were seized:
- Approximately 2.8 kilograms of Methamphetamine (Estimated Street Value = $28,000)
- Approximately 4.6 kilograms of Cocaine (Estimated Street Value = $138,000)
- Approximately 500 Gabapentin pills (Estimated Street Value = $1,500)
- Approximately 4 ounces of Fentanyl (Estimated Street Value = $6,000)
- Approximately 642 counterfeit Percocet pills (Estimated Street Value = $3,210)
- Approximately 85 Dilaudid (Estimated Street Value = $1,700)
- Approximately 40 grams of Psilocybin (Estimated Street Value = $400)
- Approximately 49 Tylenol 3 pills (Estimated Street Value = $147)
- Remington 12-gauge sawed-off shot gun loaded with ammunition
- Glock Model 44 .22 calibre pistol with ammunition
- 2 functioning tasers
- Bulletproof vest
- Brass knuckles
- Switch blade knife
- Over $10,000 of Canadian currency
- Dealer licence plate
- Scales
- Money counter
- Packaging Material
- Large amount of stolen property
A 40-year-old female, from Winnipeg is facing the following charges:
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking –Methamphetamine
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking x 6
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 x 2
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Possession of a Weapon x 2
- Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations x 2
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition x 2
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon x 4
- Possession of body armour without a valid permit or in a manner inconsistent with a valid permit
A second search warrant was executed at a residence in the 500 block of Roberta Avenue and a male was taken into custody. Nothing of evidential value was located as a result of the search warrant.
A 54-year-old male, from Winnipeg is facing the following charges:
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Cocaine
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon x 2
A third search warrant was executed on a storage locker at a commercial business in the 200 block of Gordon Avenue.
As a result of this search warrant, the following items were seized:
- Kriss Vector .45 calibre Semi-Auto Assault Style rifle with magazines and ammunition
- Gamo Varmint .177 calibre pellet rifle
- Legends MP .177 calibre pellet gun
- Large amount of various ammunition
Both males and female were released on an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.
