On February 17, 2025 at approximately 11:30 p.m., East District General Patrol members of the Winnipeg Police Service observed a vehicle pass their parked cruiser at a high rate of speed in the area of Henderson Highway and Johnson Avenue.
Officers activated their marked cruiser’s emergency lights and siren and attempted to initiate a traffic stop; however, the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. Officers followed from a distance but soon lost sight of the vehicle.
Air1 acquired the vehicle, and advised officers on the ground of its location after it had rear-ended another vehicle and collided with a light standard on the north west corner of Chief Peguis Trail and Henderson Highway rendering the vehicle inoperable.
A passenger in the vehicle fled on foot but was apprehended by officers after a brief foot pursuit, while the driver became trapped and required extrication by the WFPS. Both were transported to hospital for medical treatment.
As a result of the collision, the driver sustained injuries that required notification to the IIU.
The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) has been notified and has assumed responsibility for the investigation. Please direct any follow-up inquiries to the IIU.
