Update:

The Homicide Unit continues to investigate the July 13, 2024, homicide of Mohamed Yusuf ABDULLAHI in the 900 block of Waverley Street in Winnipeg, MB.

Through the course of their investigation, three individuals believed to be involved in the incident were identified.

On January 20, 2025, 26-year-old Ibrahim BANGURA was arrested by investigators in Winnipeg.

On February 5, 2025, investigators attended the Thunder Bay Correctional Centre and arrested 27-year-old, Norbert KIPALA, where he was being held in custody on an unrelated matter.

Both remain in custody on the strength of First Degree Murder charges.

Homicide investigators are now requesting public assistance in locating 22-year-old, Tresor HORIMBERE, who remains outstanding. HORIMBERE may be in Ontario and a warrant for First Degree Murder has been issued for his arrest.

HORIMBERE is described as:

  • A Black male
  • Approximately 5’8” with a slim build
  • Approximately 120 lbs

HORIMBERE is considered armed and dangerous and should not be approached if encountered.

Anyone with information regarding his whereabouts is asked to contact 911 (where he is observed – reference WPS file: C24-161487), the Winnipeg Police Service Homicide Unit at 204-986-6508 or anonymously at Crime Stoppers 204-786-TIPS or winnipegcrimestoppers.org.

As previously released:

On July 13, 2024, at approximately 11:47 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the report of a shooting in the parking lot of a soccer complex in the 900 block of Waverley Street.

Officers from the West District and the Tactical Support Team arrived and located an unresponsive male suffering from gunshot wounds and immediately provided emergency medical care. The victim was transported to hospital in critical condition and pronounced deceased.

The deceased victim has been identified as a 22-year-old male, Mohamed Yusuf ABDULLAHI, of Winnipeg.

The Homicide Unit is investigating and has determined the victim just finished playing and was exiting the event when he was fatally shot. Investigators do not believe this was a random shooting and are seeking the public’s assistance. There were approximately 100 spectators present at the game, and someone may have valuable information to assist the investigators.

Spectators who observed anything/anyone suspicious or if you have photos or video of the event are asked to contact the Homicide Unit at 204-986-6508 or anonymously at Crime Stoppers 204-786-TIPS or winnipegcrimestoppers.org.
