The Winnipeg Police Service’s Major Crimes Unit is investigating a number of animal cruelty reports that have been received in December 2024.

In the following three incidences, approximately six deceased cats were located by citizens who typically walk or frequent this area for recreational activity. Some of the deceased animals were left in a bag or laying on the path underneath the bridge. Signs of foul play were apparent.

General Patrol officers were dispatched to these events, met with the reporting individuals and have followed up with the Humane Society and Animal Services. Pet identifiers were observed on a few of the animals and investigators are continuing to establish ownership where possible.

Investigators realize there have been previous reports of deceased cats in the Point Douglas area, it has not been established at this time if these incidents are related.
