Retail theft affects both community well-being and public safety. This holiday season, the Winnipeg Police Service has increased it visibility and presence in Winnipeg's busy shopping areas as part of our Safe Shop retail theft initiative.
On December 21, 2024 at approximately 2:56 p.m., East District Community Support Unit officers assigned to Safe Shop duties at Kildonan Place Mall were approached by security personnel to assist them in removing several males that were causing a disturbance.
While in the process of removing the involved males, officers noted numerous irregular shapes from one of the male’s clothing prompting a search for officer safety. The search of the male resulted in the discovery of a loaded 3D-printed 9mm Glock-style handgun with a polymer slide and a magazine with three (3) rounds of ammunition on his person. The male was arrested without incident and the firearm and magazine were seized as evidence.
A 15-year-old male from Winnipeg faces the following charges:
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon, Firearm Part or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
- Carry Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Fail to Comply with Condition of Undertaking
He was detained in custody.
