On December 21, 2024 at approximately 11:20 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to an apartment complex in the 300 block of Stan Bailie Drive to check on the wellbeing of several occupants. Initial information indicated that one of the involved parties may be in possession of a firearm.
Attending West District General Patrol officers, assisted by members of the Tactical Support Team (TAC) located an unconscious adult male in a common floor hallway. While assessing the male, a handgun fell from the male’s waistband onto the floor. Officers arrested the male without incident. The firearm, determined to be a Glock 43X 9mm handgun with a magazine loaded with 9mm ammunition, was seized as evidence. No injuries were reported and the wellbeing of the involved parties was verified by officers.
The male refused to identify himself; however, his identity was uncovered by members of the Forensic Identification Unit during the identification/fingerprint process.
Malcom Christian LADO, 21, of Winnipeg is charged with the following offences:
- Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon, Firearm Part or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
- Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order x 9
- Attempt to Obstruct Justice
LADO was detained in custody.
