On October 26, 2024, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Property Crime Unit entered into an investigation regarding the Break and Enter at a storage facility in the first 100 block of Speers Road.

On November 25, 2024, at approximately 10:45 p.m., East District General Patrol officers conducted a traffic stop on a vehicle of interest related to this incident that had been previously reported as stolen in the 100 block of Henry Avenue on November 16th.

The adult male and lone occupant of the vehicle, was taken into custody without incident.

After a search of the vehicle, officers located a loaded Glock 26 with partially obliterated serial numbers, a magazine with nine (9) rounds of ammunition, several break-in instruments, and a bag of clothing linked to the aforementioned break and enter.

Members of the Property Crime Unit executed a search warrant on two storage lockers in the 200 block of Archibald Street, where property was located and identified as being connected to the aforementioned break and enter. Property items seized included the following:

  • Ego electric chainsaw
  • Outbound hip waders
  • Little buddy heaters
  • Headlamps
  • Fiskar axes
  • Gerber saws
  • Camping tents
  • Knife sharpeners
  • Various multitools

In addition, investigators also located and seized the following:

  • Winchester .22 calibre rifle with loaded magazine
  • Multiple rounds of .22 calibre ammunition
  • Smith & Wesson .177 calibre Airsoft pistol and magazine
  • Sig Sauer P226 Airsoft pistol and magazine
  • Hornet Recurve crossbow kit

Shawn Jeffrey MCGOWAN, 43, of Winnipeg has been charged with the following:

  • Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon Knowing its Possession is Unauthorized
  • Possession of a Loaded Prohibited or Restricted Firearm
  • Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon in Motor Vehicle
  • Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon, Firearm Part or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order x 2
  • Break Enter and Theft - Place
  • Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
  • Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order x 8
  • Warrant – Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order x 10

He was detained in custody.
