The Manitoba Integrated Violent Offender Apprehension Unit (MIVOAU) has arrested and turned over a male with an extradition warrant to the United States. A 60-year-old male, Robert Allen CRETER was charged with first degree murder in relation to a historical homicide case in the United States.
In 1997, a 23-year-old female was found deceased in Washington Valley Park, Bridgewater, New Jersey. Her death was considered a homicide, and despite an extensive investigation by the Somerset County Prosecutor's Office, the case remained unsolved for 26 years.
As the investigation continued, advances in DNA technology led investigators to revisit the evidence.
In April 2023, a DNA profile submitted to CODIS (Combined DNA Index System), matched the offender profile of Robert Allen CRETER who had been residing in Winnipeg, Canada for approximately two decades.
New Jersey Prosecutors, contacted the Winnipeg Police Service and the RCMP for assistance. Extradition proceedings were initiated to ensure CRETER’s return to the United States to stand trial.
In May 2024, a warrant for his arrest was issued.
On June 27, 2024, MIVOAU located and arrested CRETER in Winnipeg, and he was detained in custody for his Extradition Hearing.
On November 26, 2024, MIVOAU investigators transported CRETER to the James Richardson International Airport where he was turned over to members of the U.S. Marshals Service.
