On November 15, 2024, between 8:30 and 9:30 p.m. the Winnipeg Police Service received reports about five robberies involving a firearm. They all occurred within close proximity to each other within the River Heights/Corydon and Polo Park neighbourhoods.

The suspect description was similar for all of the robberies and was believed to involve the same individual who fled on a bike.

  1. Wellington Crescent/Cordova jogger -  a male suspect with his face covered and armed with a handgun, confronted a male jogger in the area (victim 1) and demanded money. He chased the jogger until he made it to safety and contacted police. The victim was not physically injured. 
     
  2. 900 block of Corydon Avenue fast-food restaurant -  a male suspect armed with a handgun went to the front counter and demanded money and a drink from an employee (victim 2). He did not obtain either and fled. The victim was not physically injured.
     
  3. 400 block of Academy Road gas station - a male suspect armed with a handgun, pointed it at the attendant (victim 3) and demanded money. He received cash and fled. The victim was not physically injured.
     
  4. 1600 block of Ness Avenue gas station - a male suspect armed with a handgun, pointed it at the attendant (victim 4) and demanded money. He received cash and fled. The victim was not physically injured.
     
  5. 800 block of St. James Street craft store - a male suspect armed with a gun, pointed it at the employees (victims 5 & 6) and demanded money from the till. He received cash and fled. The victims were not physically injured.

While fleeing on an e-bike, the suspect was struck by a vehicle at St. James/St. Matthews, disabling the bike. He then fled the scene on foot.

Police apprehended the suspect nearby on Madison Avenue. He was placed under arrest and subsequently transported to hospital for treatment of injuries sustained from the motor vehicle collision. The gun was seized and determined to be a C02 pistol.

A 17-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with the following 16 offences:

  • Robbery x 5
  • Disguise with Intent x 5
  • Use of Imitation Firearm During Commission of an Indictable Offence x 5
  • Possession of a Weapon

He was detained in custody.
