On October 26, 2024, at approximately 9:08 p.m., North District General Patrol officers with the assistance of AIR1 responded to the report of a stabbing in the 1600 block of Magnus Avenue.
Officers located a male with serious injuries to his abdomen. They provided emergency medical care including the application of a chest seal. The 45-year-old victim was transported to hospital in unstable condition. He was eventually upgraded to stable condition.
The initial investigation revealed the victim was smoking outside his apartment with a friend when a truck came speeding by. When the victim yelled to slow down, the truck stopped. An unknown male exited, stabbed the victim and fled in the vehicle.
At approximately 2:00 a.m., (October 27th), officers spotted the truck (confirmed as stolen) driving in the Weston area. The truck matched the description of the suspect vehicle involved in the Magnus stabbing.
The vehicle was previously reported stolen from a residence in the 1500 block of Manitoba Avenue.
Police attempted a traffic stop, but the truck took off, getting stuck on the railway tracks at Gallagher Avenue near Electra Street. An adult female passenger was taken into custody; however, the male driver had fled.
The Major Crimes Unit is continuing the investigation. A suspect has been identified and a warrant for his arrest has been submitted.
