On October 24, at 2:30 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a report of a red Buick driving erratically in the 400 block of Eugenie Street. Officers entered into an investigation.
At approximately 2:35 a.m., members of the FIight Operations Unit (Air1), located the 2013 Buick Verano travelling nearby in the back lane of Horace Street, where it pulled into a surface parking lot in the 100 block of Youville Street. Air1 maintained visual containment of the vehicle and provided direction to East District General Patrol officers on the ground.
The vehicle, later determined to be stolen, fled from police at a high rate of speed, eventually losing control and hitting a chain link fence, parked vehicle, a wooden fence and a residence located in the 300 block of Des Meurons Street.
Air1 continued tracking the male youth driver as he fled on foot, and safely guided officers to the 200 block of Horace Street, where he was arrested. A male youth passenger was taken into custody at the vehicle without incident. No injuries were sustained in connection with this incident.
A 15-year-old male from Winnipeg has been charged with the following:
- Flight While Pursued by Peace Officer
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Break Enter and Theft – Place
- Fail to Stop at Scene of Accident
- Fail to Comply with Sentence x 2
He was detained in custody. The passenger was released with no charges.
