On August 31, 2024, at approximately 11:30 p.m., General Patrol members from the West District, with the assistance of the K9 Unit, responded to a gun call near Kenaston/Sterling Lyon.

The victim in this incident was the passenger in a vehicle driving southbound on Kenaston Boulevard when another vehicle approached and was driving erratically, swerving in and out of the lanes next to the victim’s vehicle. At one point, the suspect vehicle paralleled the victim’s vehicle and pointed a firearm described as a handgun at the victim and the driver.

The suspect vehicle took off, and the victim immediately contacted police and provided a description of the suspect and vehicle.

Police located the suspect vehicle parked in the 400 block of Sterling Lyon Parkway, and a male was observed exiting the vehicle and discarding an item in a garbage receptacle. He was taken into custody, and a handgun was seized from the garbage. The gun was determined to be a CO2 pistol.

A 32-year-old male of Winnipeg is facing the following charges:

  • Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
  • Pointing a Firearm
  • Possession of a Weapon
  • Possession of Firearm, Restricted/Prohibited Weapon or Ammunition Contrary to Prohibition Order
  • Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order x 2

The accused is still in police custody and is awaiting further disposition.
