On July 17, 2024, at approximately 6:00 a.m., officers from the East District responded to the report of a Commercial Break-In at a cannabis shop in the 1000 block of Henderson Highway.

As police arrived on scene, they observed a pick-up truck bearing an Ontario licence plate take off. The suspect vehicle drove erratically over sidewalks and at excessive speeds, weaving in and out of traffic. Out of precaution for the public (morning traffic and pedestrians) police did not pursue the vehicle.

Police confirmed that the fleeing truck had been reported stolen from the street in the 300 block of Ottawa Avenue (July 15).

In addition, the Ontario licence plate had been reported stolen from a vehicle parked on Barber Street (July 15).

At approximately 10:00 a.m., a General Patrol Unit spotted the stolen truck parked in the 200 block of Bowman Avenue. While waiting to tow the vehicle, police observed the male suspect walking nearby and took him into custody.

He was turned over to the Major Crimes Unit, who continued the investigation. A search warrant was subsequently granted and executed at a residence in the 200 block of Jamison Avenue. The suspect was also identified for a break-in at a pizzeria in the 600 block of Henderson Hwy earlier that morning.

As a result of this investigation, the following items were seized:

  • Another stolen vehicle (reported stolen on July 12 from a residence in the 600 block of Castle Avenue)
  • Stolen cannabis products from the break-in on Henderson Hwy
  • $40 worth of fentanyl
