On June 16, 2024, at approximately 8:50 p.m., General Patrol officers from the East District, with the assistance of the Tactical Support and K9 Units, responded to reports of a male being assaulted by a group of teens in the 500 block of Besant Street.

Officers met with the 19-year-old victim, who indicated he was followed off a bus by five individuals when he exited at Munroe Avenue and Besant Street.

The group confronted the victim at knifepoint, assaulted him and stole his belongings. They recorded a video of the incident and subsequently ran off.

The victim declined medical attention.

The Major Crimes Unit took over the investigation and identified five suspects. It was determined that there may have been familiarity between the victim and some of the suspects, although the incident was believed to be a crime of opportunity.

Between June 16-18, police arrested four individuals now facing the following charges and were released on Undertakings as mandated by the Criminal Code.

  • A 17-year-old female (Robbery, Possess Weapon)
  • An 18-year-old female (Robbery, Possess Weapon, Breach of

  • An 18-year-old female (Robbery)
  • A 17-year-old male (Robbery)

  • A warrant has been issued for another 17-year-old male.
