Trafficking in Property Obtained by Crime – Arrest: R24-18224

In January 2024, an employee of an International parcel delivery company warehouse advised the Winnipeg Police Service of a large-scale theft investigation involving Apple Electronic products.

The Property Crime Unit entered an investigation regarding the thefts and the identified 30-year-old male employee believed to be responsible. On January 22, 2024, investigators arrested the suspect, who was charged with multiple theft-related and possession of property-related charges related to the theft and sale of Apple electronic products. Subsequent search warrants were obtained and executed on the suspect’s residence and personal vehicle. A stolen laptop, cellular phone, and Canadian funds determined obtained from the sale of stolen property were seized as evidence. The suspect was released via an undertaking, and the investigation continued.

Investigators determined that between September 2023 and mid-January 2024, the suspect stole in-transit Apple electronics valued at approximately $1.4 million U.S. and used online classified advertisements to sell the property.

In March 2024, the investigation revealed that the suspect deposited over $900,000 in Canadian funds from the sale of stolen property into personal accounts and used some of the proceeds to purchase a residence valued at over $600,000.

On April 17, 2024, Property Crime Unit investigators arrested the suspect at his residence without incident.
