On March 8, 2024, at approximately 12:20 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the underground concourse of Winnipeg Square for the report of an adult female who had assaulted a store employee.
The store employee requested the suspect leave the premises after she indicated she did not have the funds to pay for selected items. The request quickly angered the suspect, who initially threw a large cup of hot coffee at the victim and proceeded to assault the victim physically. During the assault, the victim fell to the ground, striking her head on the ground.
Central District Foot Patrol officers, assisted by General Patrol Members, quickly attended and located a 47-year-old female suffering from injuries resulting from being assaulted by the suspect. The victim, who operates the involved business, was assessed by members of the WFPS and medically cleared at the scene. The suspect fled; however, she was turned over to police by passersby, who had intervened and held her for police. Two of the three adult males who assisted were physically assaulted in the process of holding the suspect and sustained minor injuries for which they did not require medical attention.
Attending officers took over custody of the combative, uncooperative suspect and placed her in custody.
A 34-year-old female from Winnipeg is charged with three counts of Assault, Assault with a Weapon, and Assault Cause Bodily Harm.
She was released via an Undertaking as mandated by the Criminal Code.
