On January 19, 2024, at approximately 1:30 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to the 300 block of Harbison Avenue West for the report of an adult male who had been stabbed.
East District General Patrol officers attended and located a 33-year-old male victim suffering from upper body injuries sustained from a stabbing. The victim was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable. The suspect fled before police arrived.
Through the investigation, officers learned that the suspect attended the victim’s residence and pointed a firearm at the victim when he answered the door. The victim was successful in disarming the suspect of the firearm; however, he was stabbed in the upper body by the suspect, who had now armed himself with a knife. The firearm was not discharged during the incident.
Dispatched members of the Canine Unit tracked the suspect to the 300 block of Washington Avenue, where he was located and safely arrested without incident. Officers also found the loaded Smith & Wesson 9mm handgun nearby, which is believed to have been discarded by the suspect as he fled. The firearm was secured and seized as evidence.
The suspects and the victim are previously known to one another through gang affiliations and drug subculture.
Rushawn Riel McMANAMAN, 44, of Winnipeg, is charged with numerous weapons and firearms-related offences.
He was detained in custody.
