On Thursday, December 21, 2023, at approximately 3:05 p.m., members of the Winnipeg Police Service were dispatched to a residence in the 1500 block of Ross Avenue West regarding suspicious circumstances.

Prior to police arrival, officers learned that the occupant of the residence was wanted on the strength of three (3) outstanding Warrants of Arrest.

Responding officers received information that the suspect associated with the suspicious call for service was in the area of Keewatin Street and Pacific Avenue. Officers observed the suspect and identified him as the subject of the warrants. Officers attempted to take him into custody on the strength of the outstanding Warrants.

The male attempted to flee from officers but was apprehended after a short foot pursuit. The male proceeded to resist arrest, which resulted in the deployment of a Conducted Energy Weapon (Taser) to gain compliance. While officers attempted to control the male, a female in his company attended and interfered with the officer’s actions.

The male was arrested on the strength of the three (3) outstanding warrants, Resist Peace Officer and Obstruct Peace Officer. The female was also charged with Obstruct Peace Officer.

The male was transported to hospital for injuries, treated and released into police custody.

The Independent Investigation Unit of Manitoba (IIU) has been notified and has assumed responsibility for the investigation. Please direct any follow-up inquiries to the IIU.
