In September of 2023, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Guns & Gangs Unit assumed an investigation involving an adult male and the trafficking and storage of illicit drugs in the Sturgeon Park area.

On October 2, 2023, at approximately 2:00 p.m., Guns & Gangs members located the suspect male operating a mountain bicycle in the 100 block of Lawndale Avenue and arrested him without incident. Officers determined the bicycle the suspect was operating was previously reported stolen from a residence on July 18, 2023.

A search of his person by officers resulted in the seizure of the following evidence:

- Approximately 635 Grams of Methamphetamine (Estimated Street Value = $32,000)

- Approximately 32 Grams of Fentanyl (Estimated Street Value = $4,800)

- Approximately 101 Grams of Cocaine (Estimated Street Value = $10,000)

- Cellular Phone

Later the same day, Guns & Gangs Unit members assisted by the West and North District Community Support Units and the Property Crime Unit, executed search warrants at the suspect’s residence in the 400 Block of Young Street and a linked storage locker in the 1200 block of Notre Dame Avenue.

As a result of the search warrants, officers seized the following property as evidence:

- Approximately 85 Grams of Fentanyl (Estimated Street Value = $13,000)

- Assorted Ammunition (.22, .45, 223, and shotgun shells)

- Honda 50cc Motorized Vehicle

- 67 Bicycles

- Tasers x 2

- Guitars

- Several Laptops

- STIHL Bacpack Blower

- Soft Body Armour

- Digital Scale

- Approximately $4,000 CDN. Currency

Christopher Maurice KENNEDY, 52, of Winnipeg, has been charged with the following offences:

- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Methamphetamine

- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking –

Fentanyl

- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking –

Cocaine

- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon x 2

- Possession of Proceeds Obtained by Crime Under $5,000 x 8

- Possession of Proceeds Obtained by Crime Over $5,000 x 2

- Warrant (Fail to Comply Probation Order)

He was detained in custody.

Efforts will be made to return identified stolen property to their rightful owners.

The Winnipeg Police Service reminds the public to document serial numbers of household products, such as electronics, power tools, and bicycles, and report any incidents of thefts to police. The documentation facilitates investigations in identifying victims of theft and increases the chances of the return of property to their rightful owners.
