During May of 2023, the Winnipeg Police Service’s Organized Crime Unit, in cooperation with the Drug Enforcement Unit, continued investigating a retail psilocybin (magic mushroom) dispensary in the Osborne Village neighbourhood and identified two individuals believed to be involved in its operation.

On May 19, 2023, members of the Guns & Gangs Unit executed search warrants at the retail business in the 100 block of Osborne Street, a residence in the 300 block of Waterfront Drive, and a linked vehicle associated with the suspects. The male and female suspects were located within the business at the time of the warrant execution and placed under arrest without incident.

The search of both the business and linked residence produced the following items, which officers seized as evidence:

- 13-gram bags of Psilocybin x 39
- Approximately 260 grams of loose Psilocybin
- Various Edible products and capsules
- 2018 Mercedes Benz CLA250 4MATIC
- Electronics (cellular phones/laptop)
- Bank Machine
- Score Sheets
- Scale
- Packaging Materials
- Approximately $16,600 in currency

The value of the seized drugs is estimated at $10,000.

A 37-year-old male and a 37-year-old female, both residing in Winnipeg, face the following charges:

- Traffic in Scheduled Substance – Psilocybin x 2
- Possession of a Scheduled Substance for the Purpose of Trafficking – Psilocybin
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000

Both were released on Undertakings as Mandated by the Criminal Code of Canada.

 

As previously released:

Recently, members of the Winnipeg Police Service Drug Enforcement Unit (DEU) became involved in a drug investigation involving a commercial business in the 100 block of Osborne Street.

As a result of the investigation, a business was identified as selling Psilocybin mushrooms, also known as illegal magic mushrooms. Psilocybin is an active ingredient classified as a Schedule III substance under the Controlled Drugs and Substance Act (CDSA).

Earlier today, a Controlled Drug and Substance Act search warrant was executed.

The investigation is ongoing, and further details regarding arrest(s) and items seized will be provided at a later date.
