Between February and May 2023, multiple break and enter to businesses and community centres occurred within the city. As a result, the Winnipeg Police Service Major Crimes Unit entered into an investigation and identified the following locations:
- A business in the 100 block of Watt Street - tools and equipment valued at over $14,000 was stolen
- A community centre in the 400 block of Chalmers Avenue - tools and equipment valued at over $5,000 was stolen
- A community centre in the 400 block of Chalmers Avenue - tools and equipment valued at over $6,000 was stolen
- A community centre in the 400 block of Chalmers Avenue – an All Terrain Vehicle (ATV) and trailer valued at $7,000 was stolen
- A storage facility in the 100 block of Archibald Street – an undetermined amount of property stolen
The investigation progressed, resulting in a search warrant being executed at a residence in the 400 block of Thames Avenue by the Majors Crimes Unit, assisted by the Tactical Support Team. As a result, numerous articles of stolen property were recovered, including over $1,200 in Canadian currency.
Joseph Desmond HOEBEE, 29, of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
- Break Enter & Theft x 5
- Possession of Break In Instruments
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
Nicolas Ronald HOEBEE, 25, of Winnipeg, has been charged with:
- Break Enter & Theft x 5
- Possession of Break In Instruments
- Possession of Property Obtained by Crime Over $5,000
- Possession of Proceeds of Property Obtained by Crime Under $5,000
They were detained in custody.
