On May 13, 2023, at approximately 4:20 a.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a multi-room residence in the first 100 block of Keewatin Street for the report of a male who had been stabbed.
General Patrol officers from the West District attended the residence, where they located a 63-year-old male victim suffering from upper-body injuries sustained from a stabbing. He was transported to hospital in unstable condition and later upgraded to stable.
With assistance from members of the Canine Unit (K-9), officers located a suspect nearby and placed him under arrest without incident. Officers recovered a sharp-edged weapon concealed on his person and a small quantity of methamphetamine. Both were seized as evidence.
The Major Crimes Unit assumed the investigation and learned the suspect entered the victim’s residence through a window before stabbing him in an unprovoked manner. The suspect fled the residence before the police arrived.
The suspect and victim are previously unknown to one another, and officers believe the incident to be random.
A 17-year-old male from Winnipeg is facing the following charges:
- Aggravated Assault
- Break, Enter & Commit – Dwelling House
- Carrying Concealed Weapon, Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Possession of a Weapon
- Possession of Scheduled Substance – Methamphetamine
He was released on an Undertaking and an Appearance Notice as mandated by the Criminal Code.
