During February 2023, the Major Crimes Unit of the Winnipeg Police Service entered into an investigation regarding two adult males suspected in several Commercial Break & Enter incidents within the city.
Incident Synopsis:
- On January 30, 2023, a suspect gained entry to a restaurant in the 2800 block of Pembina Highway by breaking the front glass window; however, he fled without property.
- Between January 31 and February 1, 2023, two suspects gained entry to a retail business in the 2800 block of Pembina Highway by breaking a window. Before the suspects fled the premises, a cash register containing $250 was stolen.
- On February 2, 2023, two suspects gained entry to a restaurant in the 2700 block of Pembina Highway by breaking the front door glass. Before the suspects fled the premises, a cash register containing $140 was stolen.
- On February 3, 2023, two suspects gained entry to a restaurant in the 2600 block of Pembina Highway by breaking a window causing approximately $1,000 in damage. Approximately $300, two Interac pads, a laptop, and a power drill were stolen before the suspects fled the premises.
- On February 6, 2023, a suspect gained entry to a restaurant in the 2600 block of Pembina Highway by breaking a window. Approximately $600 was stolen from a cash box before the suspect fled the premises.
On February 7, 2023, the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a commercial break-in at a business in the 2700 block of Pembina Highway.
General Patrol members from the West District flooded and contained the area while searching for two suspects who had fled from the premises in possession of two stolen cash registers. Officers arrested two suspects in the 900 block of Carrigan Place without incident.
The Major Crimes Unit continued its investigation and linked the two suspects to the above-mentioned incidents.
Investigators applied for and were granted search warrants for both suspects’ residences in the 900 block of Carrigan Place. During the execution of the search warrants, stolen property, including articles of clothing and accessories linked to the incidents, was located and seized as evidence by investigators.
Dustin Tommy HATCHER, 38, from Winnipeg, is charged with the following offences:
- Break Enter & Theft – Place x 5
- Fail to Comply with Probation Order
Bradian Joseph Michael ZAYONCE, 21, from Winnipeg, is charged with the following offences:
- Break Enter & Theft – Place x 6
- Break & Enter with Intent – Place
- Possession of Break-In Instruments
Both were detained in custody.
