On December 17, 2022, at approximately 1:36 p.m., the Winnipeg Police Service responded to a commercial property in the first 100 block of Isabel Street for the report of a robbery by two suspects, one of which was armed with bear spray repellant.
Officers from the Central District, assisted by the Tactical Support Unit, attended to the business and located several victims suffering from the effects of bear spray repellant.
Through their investigation, officers learned the suspects attempted to steal merchandise when they were confronted by staff. Both suspects fled before the police arrived. Before fleeing the business, one of the suspects discharged a canister of bear spray at several staff members, causing severe discomfort. In addition, approximately $3,000 in damage was caused to merchandise contaminated by the bear spray. The victims received medical attention from attending medical personnel.
On December 18, at approximately 11:00 p.m., officers from the North District safely arrested one of the suspects walking in the area and Salter Street and Alfred Avenue without incident.
Nicki Gilbert BEARDY, 29, of Winnipeg, is charged with the following offences:
- Robbery
- Possession of a Weapon
