On December 16, 2022, at 7:25 p.m., North District General Patrol units, with the assistance of the K9 Unit, responded to a beer vendor in the 1600 block of Main Street for a report of a male that had shot a firearm at a moving vehicle.
Officers later located a car that had been struck by gunfire. No injuries were reported, and members of the Major Crimes Unit continued with the investigation.
It is believed that a suspect (a 15-year-old male) had attended the vendor with a group, at which time he confronted an adult male (unknown to him) in the parking lot and produced a handgun. The adult male ran to a car driven by an adult female, and the suspect pointed the firearm at them. He then shot at the victim’s vehicle as it fled the area.
On December 17, 2022, at approximately 9:30 p.m., a K9 Unit observed a suspect vehicle involved in the incident. With the assistance of the Tactical Support Team and Central District General Patrol officers, it was stopped near Notre Dame Avenue and Alverstone Street. Three individuals (including the suspect from the previous evening) were taken into custody.
A firearm was located within the vehicle and found to be a loaded 9mm handgun with an auto sear (intended to convert it from semi-automatic to automatic), an over-capacity magazine and an obliterated serial number. Additionally, the 15-year-old suspect was found to be in possession of 23 pills believed to be Percocet.
A 15-year-old male of Winnipeg has been charged with:
- Discharge a Firearm with Intent
- Pointing a Firearm
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Weapon
- Possession of a Firearm Knowing Serial Number has been Tampered With
- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations
- Possession of Scheduled Substance – Percocet
- Fail to Comply with Condition of Release Order (x2)
He was detained.
An 18-year-old male and a 26-year-old female, both of Winnipeg, are facing charges of:
- Possession of a Prohibited or Restricted Firearm with Ammunition
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm
- Unauthorized Possession of a Firearm in Motor Vehicle
- Unauthorized Possession of a Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Carrying Concealed Weapon Prohibited Device or Ammunition
- Tampering with Serial Number of a Firearm
- Store Firearm or Restricted Weapon Contrary to Regulations
They were released on an Undertaking (as mandated by the Criminal Code).
